Miller might be a good acquisition. But, is he better than Demelo?
Highly unlikely the Jets will be able to resign Demelo given their CAP issues. Have we given up hope on the idea that the Sens might make an offer to Demelo? |

Dude, Buffalo routinely "has a fast one pulled on them". honestly, i can't remember the last time the sabres actually won a deal.
to suggest that a blogger might be able to pull a fast one on the sabres GM isn't really THAT crazy given the recent history of that team |

Alot to unpack here, and I'm busy watching the Today show, lol.
1st, I want Botterill replaced, let's get that out there 1st.
That said, he has a mixed bag in trade results. His biggest loss was big to be sure in the ROR for nothing move...but that move was forced on him by an owner who was butt hurt that a player skillfully engineered his way out of Buffalo, and the owner took it personally to the point he instructed his GM to get any deal done before July 1st when a $7m bonus was due...that requirement lowered the trade return to nothing but trash. He should have done better anyway, but he had a loaded .357 against his temple.
Same with the Kane trade, ownership was butthurt with Kane's many off ice issues, including making a rude comment about the daughter of the owners ass...ooooppppppps...bye, bye.
Only in Buffalo, lol.
To answer the question though,
1)acquiring Jokiharju for Nylander was a landslide win.
2) Montour was decent.
3)Getting Kahun for 2 pending UFA as useless as Sheary and Erod was another steal.
4)Acquiring Skinner for Pu and a couple mid-round draft picks was stellar...signing him to a mega overpayment was not...the coach's decision to play a 40G scorer with 4th and 5th line talent for 75% of the season at 12:00 TOI was laughable at best....but the trade itself was huge.
He has made some real head scratchers with Frolik and Simmonds trying to buy a better locker room. |

My ideal solution is re-signing DeMelo, for sure. But that's not the game we're playing here. |

You have to give some slack when I wander off track, I am Q11 since crossing back into Canada. I have run out ideas on how to amuse myself.
I was thinking about taking some time this afternoon to stand in the front window and wave at passing cars. |

I don’t understand the love affair with Demelo. He was an ok stay at home d-man but nothing more and nothing less. That kind of guy should be easily replaceable, and you should not lock them down in a sizable contact as a slight regression in their play would make them less useful. |

I thought Demelo would come with less of a price than Miller. |

i think a lot of the trades seem good at the time, and then a lot of players end up playing like poop when they get to Buffalo, making the deals seem poopty in hindsight......he reminds of me the "anti-pierre dorion". his deals look great when made, then get worse over time. most of dorion's deals look bad at the time, and get better with hindsight |

Botterill actually hasn’t been as bad as the results. The stinker was Ryan Oreily trade, but the main price who came back, berglund, was a 20 goal scorer and his agent screwed him up. He left his contract and Buffalo was left without a2nd line center |

Hypothetical.....
I'm sitting with Pierre Dorion at the draft. Sens have picks 2, 4, and 21. Here's what I do:
Pick 2: "Ottawa selects Quinton Byfield from Sudbury"
Pick 4: "Ottawa selects Lucas Raymond from Frolunda"
Then..... "we have a trade to announce. Ottawa trades Colin White & picks 33, 46 and a conditional pick in 2021 to Chicago for Picks 9 & 71 in this draft. Ottawa your up"
Pick 9: "Ottawa selects Alexander Holtz from Djurgårdens IF"
2021 - 2022 Ottawa Senators
Alexander Holtz - Quinton Byfield - Lucas Raymond
Brady Tkachuk - Logan Brown - Drake Batherson
Alex Formenton - Josh Norris - Connor Brown/Anthony Duclair
Filip Chlapik + 2 other bottom 6Fs
Thomas Chabot - Lassi Thomson
Erik Brannstrom - Nikita Zaitsev
Mark Borowiecki - Jacob Bernard Docker |

How did you get rid of Zaitsev ? No one is going to take him for anything less than multiple picks, including at least one first. Anything less, and you're dreaming. |

At number 2, I want Stutzle. He was extremely impressive at WJC. |
